A Difficult 24 hours

Yesterday Frankie went to her new home, she has joined Mary and Simon with Fiki (one of Dollars pups), Zurie (a big std boy) and Ebbie ( a toy) in Cornwall. It was only a matter of minutes before she was tearing around the garden with Fiki so I am sure she will settle in very quickly.

Although I know that she has a wonderful life ahead of her with a very loving family, I am devastated and miss her terribly, it doesn't matter how much you tell yourself that you have done the right thing for the dog it still hurts. I am looking forward to seeing lots of photos and updates on flickr.com. I have already received an email saying that things are going well.

Last night I went to bed leaving Bella with 6 fat healthy pups, this morning I came down to find that one of the boy pups was fading. He had stopped feeding and his breathing was shallow. This pup had been born with a tiny hole in his palette, possibly because they were born several days early and it hadn't finished fusing, which we had hoped would close over in the following days as he was sucking well and there was no milk coming up his nose. Sadly this wasn't to be and we assume that he must have got some fluid on the lungs giving him pneumonia. I had no option but to have him put to sleep this morning. This is only the second puppy that I have lost through fading in nearly 20 years of breeding so it has come as a shock..

Bella is looking after the remaining pups very well, they are all gaining weight nicely and I am looking forward to them opening their eyes next week.

Hi Jane, I'm so glad Frankie has found a good home. I wouldn't want to be in your shoes all the same. You know you've done the right thing and I look forward to reading updates if you are up to it.

Also sorry to hear about the loss of a pup. Sounds like it couldn't be helped. May all the other pups carry on in good health!

So sorry to hear your bad luck with Bellas pup- and I know how much you must be missing litle Frankie - she's such a sweetheart - instantly endeard herself to all the family (they all came to eat with us and meet her tonight and - she loved all the attention) Everyone is amazed at how well she copes and she had grand games with them all-but I can understand your feelings of loss- thanks for giving us the pleasure of her in our lives.
Fiki is beside herself with joy since Frankie arrived and Zurie is very proud of his girls.
Even little Ebs plays tug and chase with her - she's so gentle.

They say dogs "just live in the moment" - often thought life would be so much easier if we humans did the same :-))
Hope your days are improving - all very good here - no close encounters of the "goose kind" today- all peace and traquility !

Off course you will miss Frankie, but that just shows us how well you have treated her.

I just caught up with this - Frankie is such a lucky girl! I must try and contact mary.e to see if we can meet up for a poodle run. Charley would love to meet his little sister, I'm sure (and his cousins, too, of course).

Sad to hear about the pup, but it is clear that you have done everything you needed to do, sometimes it just isn't meant to be.

Hugs from me and a kiss from Charley!
